M4TM Knobcon Build Workshops!
Get psyched! Juanito and Modular for the Masses will be hosting TWO build workshops at Knobcon this year, giving you the chance to be the first to use (and build!) two of their newest modules.
BadSidechain is an 8hp Eurorack module which combines a state-variable VCF with an envelope follower and a Vactrol-based VCA. The filter and envelope follower can be used by themselves, but they can be used in concert to sidechain a signal with any other signal, with the ability to filter the reference signal so that the sidechaining "focuses" on the frequencies emphasized or removed with the state-variable VCF. The VCF is well-behaved and resonates cleanly, allowing the sidechain effect to scan across a signal's frequency spectrum. Using a percussion track as the reference is lots of fun, you can sidechain on the kick, the toms, the snare, the cymbals, as a fr'instance.
As if that is somehow not enough, there is a SECOND build workshop! Some of you may have a prototype of this, but we’re proud to welcome VCSlope to the official lineup.
This 8hp Eurorack module started with a faithful copy of a Serge voltage-controlled slope generator with a few tweaks and two added features. The slope generator is the modular world's most versatile device, it can be a VCO, an LFO, an envelope generator, envelope follower, a transient detector, a pulse delay, an audio filter, and more! These guys work best in multiples which is why they so often appear as DualUSGs or Maths etc. This particular slope generator gives the user voltage control over the rise and fall shape, exponential voltage control over the rate (labelled V/Oct, but it's not calibrated or temperature compensated), it has an attenuverter at the end of the signal chain, and a gate output that goes high when the signal is falling. The shape controls have been made more sensitive than Serge's design, and tweaked to make it easy to get a nice linear slope at the 12 o'clock position.
